Little Ella Jane
M. J. McConnell, Allen, Tex.

Little Ella Jane, daughter of T. H. & Mattie Meager (sic), was born the 2nd of 
Sept 1881 and died near Cherokee Mills, Ga., the 26th of Oct. 1886. She was the 
light of the home of her grandparents, with whom she lived. The following 
beautiful peom was composed in memory of her and sent to them by an old friend 
and neighbor whose home is now in the far west. 

She came to stay with us awhile,
But could not long remain; 
She was too fair on earth to stay, 
Our Little Ella Jane, 

The spring flowers again will come,
On hill and lowland plain; 
Though ours will  ne'er return-
Our lilly, Ella Jane.

The autumn leaves of varied dyes, 
Will deck and shade the lane, 
Though not adorn and crown the brow
Of pretty Ella Jane.

We miss her, Oh, we miss our child,
And vainly we complain; 
We're sad and lonely everywhere
Without Our Ella Jane. 

We knew we should not grieve for her, 
For she is free from pain,
And with the little angels now
Is our Dear Ella Jane. 

Cease troubled heart, cease to grieve, 
And aching, restless brain,
She cannot come, though we may go
To darling Ella Jane.

This world is full of cares and woes,
Fears fall like Summer rain,
And she is where they never come-
Our angel, Ella Jane. 

The Comforter will surely come
And every doubt explain,
And in that place prepared for us
We'll live with Ella Jane.
