The Cherokee Advance 3 July 1885 p 3
On last Sunday morning the grim monster, Death, visited the family of Mr. W. M. 
McCandless (sic) and laid its cold hand upon the emaciated form of Miss Sallie, 
who had been suffering so long with consumption, but who during the whole of her 
sickness was patient, resigned and ever ready to be called home to her heavenly 
Father.  She was a truly good, Christian young lady, and so lived that her death 
was a victory.  We deeply sympathize with the father, brothers, sisters and 
friends in the death of this good Christian woman.
Her mother preceded her to the grave some twelve months ago, having been stricken 
down with the same disease.  The remains of Miss Sallie were interred in the town 
cemetery on Monday with fitting and appropriate religious services.
