All That was earthly and mortal of Miss Rachael McCanless were consigned to the 
grave last Friday.  Miss Rachael was the second and last daughter of Mr. Wm. 
McCanless to die of consumption within the last twelve months-his wife died of 
the same disease about two years ago-and one of his only two sons is now 
lingering in the last stages with but a feeble hold on life.  Miss Rachael was 
about 21 years of age and a tender, loving, affectionate young lady of pure 
christian character and beloved by all.  We deeply sympathize with the bereaved 
yet in their due affliction, it is sweet consolation to believe that her soul 
has winged its flight to Heaven.

At the Canton Methodist Sunday-school on the 18th day of July, 1886, the 
following resolutions was (sic) adopted:
Resolved: That in the death of Miss Rachiel McCandless on Thursday, July 15th, 
the Canton Methodist Sunday-school has lost one of its loved attendants--one 
more Sunday-school scholar has gone to reap her rich and merited reward.  While 
we deeply sympathize with her grief-stricken relatives we can but think how 
much happier she is in glory to day than she was in this sin-cursed world.  We 
should all strive to emulate her pure christian character, so we may be ready 
as she was, when the time comes and say, "Thy will be done not mind."
Be it further resolved,--That the above be spread upon the Sunday school 
minutes, a copy be furnished to the sorrowing family, and published in the 
Cherokee Advance.
