A Tribute of Love
In the home of my childhood the angel of death has entered and conveyed 
beyond the skies the souls of my loved and cherished grand parents, John and 
Mary T. Petree, who died Sept. 10 and 15th. 
Many are the hearts that mourn for them.  Language is inadequate to portray 
even a sketch of their lives and characters.  They have been writing their 
own history by acts and deeds and words all along through life, and by their 
goodness, purity and devotion to their children and grand children and 
friends they have carved a monument more enduring than sculptured marble. 
To me they were much beloved.   When the hand of providence took from me a 
devoted father before I learned to lisp his name, they were the ones to take 
me by the hand and lead me along and train me for the stern duties of life, 
and for heaven.  Will any one wonder that I wept when the message came that 
they were dead. I shall never behold their lovely forms on earth again, yet 
I will ever carry with me a grateful remembrance of my grand parents.  They 
have rejoiced with me in prosperity and whom misfortune overtook me they 
have aided me, and in my errors have reproved and counselled me.  I have 
tried not to grieve.  I am perfectly reconciled to the will of God.   Julia
