The Cherokee Advance (Canton, Ga.)   Friday 12 Nov 1886 p 3
We regret to learn of the death of Mr. L. Newton Petty, in the eastern part of 
the county, on Tuesday of last week.  He was in his twenty-third year and a 
splendid young man, against whom no had aught.  His remains were interred at 
Hightower last Thursday, surrounded by a large crowd of sorrowing friends and 
relatives.  He was a candidate for tax collector of this county, and would have 
received a fine vote.  We sympathize with the bereaved relatives.
