The Cherokee Advance 6 Jan 1881 p 3
The report reaches us just before going to press that Mr. Newton Smith was 
found dead yesterday morning at the residence of Mr. Tuck Pope, having died 
sometima (sic) during the night, unexpectedly to Mr. Pope's family.  He was in 
town the day before.
