The Cherokee Advance 3 Jan 1884 p 3
After finishing up his usual days work on Wednesday Dec 26th 1883 Mr. J. H.
Steadman started for home but when near Mrs. Thackers he was stricken with
paralysis and had to be carried in her house.  He remained their (sic) until the
following evening when he was removed home, (sic)  He continued to grow worse
until about 6 o'clock following Saturday evening when his suffering was put to
an end and his soul required of him by the one who gave it, (sic) Mr. Steadman
was in his 53rd year and had been a citizen of Canton and had a tin shop here
for a number of years, (sic)  He was a usefull (sic) quiet peaceable, honest and
respected by all who knew him, (sic)  Thus ends the life of a man against whom
naught could be said.
