E. church, South, who died at the home of his brother, R. A. Stone, near Fields Chapel, in Cherokee county, Ga., Feb. 1st 1885. He was born in Bartow county, Ga. the 9th day of May 1863. Moved with his father to North Carolina, at about fifteen years of age; was converted and joined the church when about sixteen, and young as he was, he was appointed to the responsible position of steward, an office which he filled with his usual earnestness. He came back to the land of his birth, nearly a year ago, and was living with his brother, R. A. Stone. He was a young man of great promise, yet modest and retiring in his disposition but his great worth was beginning to be realized and appreciated as was demonstrated by the __iver and interest and attention bestowed upon him in his last hours. His life among us was as near Christlike as I ever saw. He was sympathetic, yet firm, with thorough self mastery, full of hope and life, ever at his post, whether preaching prayer meeting, or the Sunday school. Walter was there to bear his part of the burden, but without ostentacion (sic). Indeed in all the walks of life, I have watched him, in school, at home, and at the public gathering, both religious and secular, and I never heard him say a word, or do an act, that I thought could have improved. But he is gone yet his life and dying testimony, assures us he is safe with Jesus and his Maker in Heaven, and while we sympathise (sic) with his bereaved brothers and sisters and many relatives and friends, let us imitate his example, that we too, "may die the death of the righteous, and our last end be like his."
