Turk, wife of our beloved brother, Theodore Turk. She was born Nov. 7th, 1808 in Franklin county, Ga. In 1829 she united with the Line Baptist church, Habersham county, and was baptized by the Rev. Littleton Meeks. She was married in 1831, and for fifty-one years shared life's joys and sorrows with the husband of her youth. There was born to them ten children, all of whom preceeded (sic) her to the heavenly land, except one, a physician of prominence, Dr. J. M. Turk of Canton. The aged sister was an earnest, humble christian, whose piety was apparent to all who knew her. Her life was spent in devotion to the cause of Him to whom she gave her heart in the days of her youth. Often did she tell her husband of her desire to go and be forever with the Lord. On the day in which she died, she told her husband that she would depart to the better land that night, and expressed herself as satisfied, that all was clear before her. The Messenger was even nearer than she thought, for just before the setting of the sun, her prepared soul was released from its earthly tenement and ascended to God. Hers was a life well spent in the service of the Lord, and when old age and death came, she was found undismayed. The Lord fulfilled His promise to sustain His own through death's gloomy vale. It is when we come to contemplate the christian dying, and to stand by the open grave that hides so many loved ones from our sight, that we can best appreciate the religion of the Lord Jesus Christ. "Lifes (sic) fitful ever, they sleep well in Jesus." The funeral services were conducted by the writer. It was the request of her sister Turk to her husband, that when she was dead, the discourse should be founded upon the following words; "A sinner saved by grace." The hymn was likewise of her selection, a portion of which will be found below. May God comfort our aged brother Turk in this sad affliction, and may he find consolation in the blissful reflection that his dear companion has gone to forever be with the "King in His beauty." And in a little while, he too shall be called to join his loved wife and children in the better country. God grant that all the family shall meet there on the "banks of Eternal deliverance." 1st "Sweet rivers of redeeming love Lie just before my eyes, Had I the piuions (sic) of a dove, I'd to those regions rise; I'd rise superior to my pain, With joy outstrip the wind, I'd cross proud Jordan's swelling flood And leave the world behind. 2nd A few more days and years at most My troubles will be o'er; I hope to join the heavenly host. On Canaans happy shore, My raptured soul shall drink and feast In loves unbounded sea; The glorious hope of endless rest Is ravishing to me. 3rd Oh come my Savior, come away, And bear me to the sky, Nor let they chariot long delay, Make haste and bring it nigh; I long to see thy glorious face, And in Thine image shine To __umph in victorious grace And be forever Thine."
