M. Vaughn, of Sutallee, died May 30, 1885, at 3 p.m. She was taken to her bed on May 27, very sick with measles. She had such domestic treatment as the family could give her. On Thursday she was found in a comatose state. The family did not know these symptoms to be a forerunner of death. On Saturday morning at two o'clock one of the family discovered she could not move or speak. I was called to see her at four o'clock same morning. I found her laboring under apoplexy from extravasation of blood in the brain. I did all in my power, but, alas, all efforts were van. She died at 3 that afternoon. Her remains were taken to Mt. Carmel church and there decently interred at six o'clock Sunday evening. Prayer and singing by R. A. Stone, and many tears were shed by young and old. Misses M. Knox and Sallie King decorated the coffin with a wreath of beautiful flowers. Mrs. Vaughn was beloved by all who knew her, and her place in our hearts can never be filled. S. M. Hardin.
