Marriages
On Thursday afternoon, 2 o'clock, Dec. 31st, 1885, Miss Sallie L. Hill, of 
this place, and Mr. M. D. Arnold, of Knoxville, Tenn., were united in 
marriage at the residence of Prof. J. S. Hill, the brides father, by Rev. W. 
H. Speer.  The bride is an accomplished young lady, and though only 
acquainted with a few here was a favorite with them and highly spoken of.  
The groom is a member of the firm of Briscoe, Swepson & Co., wholesale dry 
goods, notions and shoe dealers, Knoxville, Tenn., and holds high and 
honorable positions in business, church and social affairs in Tenn. The 
bride was the recipient of numerous and elegant presents from the friends of 
the groom.  They left on the evening of their marriage for Florida and other 
States and places of interest on a bridal tour.  They have the best wishes 
of the Advance and its readers for a long life of happiness and prosperity.
