J. Rowe ELMER JACKSON CRAWFORD As Clerk of-the Superior Court of Clarke County, Georgia, for 20 years, and. of the City Court of Athens, since its establishment, Elmer J. Crawford has a record of one hundred per cent attendance at every session of these courts since he was elected to office in 1903. Born December 18, 1874, in Sandy Creek District, Clarke County, .Georgia, the son of John R. Crawford and Mary Elizabeth (Williams) Crawford, his first schooling was at Grove School, Cobb street, Athens. He was a member of the class of 1899, University of Georgia. After leaving college he spent two years in assisting his father in dairying and farming. He was N. P. & Ex-Officio J. P. for the 219th District, G. M., for two years, and was on the ticket as deputy for C. W. Cooper, candidate for clerk in 1900, and he and Mr. Cooper were elected and sworn in on January 1, 1901. In March, 1902, he entered the race for clerk to succeed Mr. Cooper, and with two opponents won out. He began his term of office as clerk January 1, 1903, and has held the office continuously since that date, being re-elected each term without opposition, and has nevrer missed a session of any court upon which it is his duty to attend. He is a member of the Masons, Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows, Ellis, Red Men, Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce and Y. M. C. A. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Athens. During the World War he was a member and Secretary of the Registration Committee for Selective Service, and later was designated as Secretary of the Local Board of Clarke County, for the Selective Service, by the War Department. He was honorably discharged from these duties March 31, 1919. He was married on April 25, 1905, to Miss Annie King, daughter of like late Mr. A. L. King and Mrs. Tallulah (Rich) King. Children: King Crawford, Janet Crawford and Thomas Peter Crawford. His residence address is 506 Franklin street (at Cobb), Athens, Ga., and all of his children were born at the present home.
