J. Rowe JOHN B. GAMBLE Born at Hamilton, Georgia, August 25, 1878, and is a son of John W. and Jemmie (Mobley) Gamble. His father was born in Talbot County, Georgia, and died at Hamilton, Georgia, March 12, 1885. His mother was born at Hamilton, Georgia, and now lives with her son at Athens, Georgia. Mr. Gamble obtained his early education in the schools of Hamilton, Georgia, and subsequently attended the Neil Institute at Griffin, Georgia. From 1898 to 1902 he worked to secure needed means to enable him to enter college. In September, 1902, he entered the University of Georgia; and was graduated from the Law Department with the degree of Bachelor of Law, and was admitted to the bar on June 15, 1904, at Athens, Georgia, and on October 1, 1904, he opened an office at Athens, Georgia, where he has continuously practiced his profession. In 1905 he was appointed Administrator for Clarke County, serving in this capacity for four years. In 1907 he was appointed County Attorney for Clarke County and Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, holding this position for several years. In 1908 he was elected Chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee for Clarke County, and held this position until 1913. In 1912 he was nominated and elected Solicitor General of the Western Circuit, and went in office January 1, 1913, and retired January 1, 1917. He is at present District Counsel of the Seaboard Air Line Railway Company, covering the territory from the South Carolina line to Fulton County. He is President of the Athens Bar Association, and Chairman of the Membership Committee of the Georgia Bar Association, and a member of the American Bar Association. Mr. Gamble, on March 1, 1905, married Miss Mable Turner Hodgson, of Athens, Georgia, daughter of Joseph M. and Belle Turner Hodgson.
