Rowe JOSEPH MARSHALL HODGSON Joseph Marshall Hodgson was born on May 1, 1855, on Oconee Street, in Athens, Ga., where he attended school, and graduated from the University of Georgia in the class of 1875. After graduation, he spent two years in New York, filling a clerical and bookkeeping position. With this exception, his entire life has been spent in Athens. He was married in 1879 to Miss Belle G. Turner. His children are: Mrs. John B. Gamble, Edith F. Hodgson, Ralph R. Hodgson, Mrs. M. H. Jacobs, Hugh L. Hodgson and Clifford W. Hodgson. Mr. Joe, as he is known, was largely instrumental in the building of Hoyt's Chapel, the renewing of Bethaven Church, and the construction of the Central Presbyterian Church on Prince Avenue, in which latter church he is now elder. He is a trustee of the Lucy Cobb Institute, and of the Thornwell Orphanage. He is trustee and secretary of Nacoochee Institute, and co-laborer in Rabun Gap Industrial School, president of the Hodgson-Comer Go., director of the Athens Railway and Electric Co., vice-president and director of the Southern Manufacturing. Co., and senior partner in King-Hodgson Company's three grocery stores. He has been a member of the Board of Commissioners of Roads and Revenues of Clarke County with the exception of about three years since its organization. During his service as such commissioner, Clarke County Court House, all of the permanent roads and bridges of the county, including Mitchell's Bridge, have been constructed.
