J. Rowe MOSES G. MICHAEL Born August 15, 1862, Jefferson, Ga., son of David and Theresa Jacobs Michael. Citizen of Athens since 1865. Attended private schools here. Graduated University of Georgia, first honor, Bachelor of Engineering degree, .August 7. 1878, one week before sixteenth birthday. Youngest graduate of that institution. Member of wholesale and retail dry goods firm of Michael Bros., established in 1882 and now one of the largest businesses of its kind in the South. Prominent in many fields of activity. President of the old Commercial Club of Athens, president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce many years, and now vice-president of the Athens Savings Bank. Vitally interested in education. Treasurer of the Athens Board of Education past thirteen years. In politics a member of the Democratic electoral college in 1904 and has served as chairman of his state senatorial executive committee. In fraternal orders he is a past master of Free and Accepted Masons, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was the first Exalted Ruler of Athens Lodge, No. 790, B. P. O. E. and also served as District Deputy Noble Grand of Odd Fellows, Sachem of Red Men. He is president of the Congregation of the Children of Israel and for over thirty years was superintendent of the Sunday School, not missing a single Sunday's service in that time. In the absence of the Rabbi he has at times officiated in that office. He is one of the great civic leaders of this city and section, possessing executive ability of remarkable nature. He is a director of the Hebrew Orphans Home, of Atlanta, Ga., a director of the National Jewish Hospital for Consumptives, Denver, Colorado, and a director of the Jewish Consumptives Relief Association, Denver, Colorado. Zone chairman of five Liberty Loan campaigns. Married Miss Emma Cohen, Atlanta, Ga. Children: Jerome Michael, member of the law firm of Konta, Kirchway and Michael, New York City; Leroy and David Michael, of the firm of Michael Bros., and Mrs. Helen Michael Rich, Atlanta, Ga.
