J. Rowe ARTHUR J. PALMER Born August 12, 1875, at Athens, Georgia. Finishing his education in the city public schools, his first work was with the insurance firm of Griffeth & Charbonnier. In 1891, his father, the late Dr. H. R. Palmer, and Dr. E. R. Kinnebrew purchased the business of Sorrells & Smith, and began operating it under the trade name of Palmer & Kinnebrew. After a few years Dr. Palmer bought the interest of Dr. Kinnebrew and, together with Arthur.J. Palmer and L. P. Palmer, his two sons, formed the present firm of H. R. Palmer & Sons. Graduating from the New York College of Pharmacy with the class of 1897, Arthur J. Palmer was put in charge of the prescription department. He assisted Dr. S. C. Benedict, occupying the chair of Medical Jurisprudence at the University of Georgia, in establishing the University School of Pharmacy, and occupied the chair of Theoretical and Practical Pharmacy until the growth of business of H. R. Palmer & Sons demanded his full time and attention. At this time he was put in charge of the formula department of the firm, developing several medicinal and toilet preparations which the firm has been manufacturing since, some of which are very generally known outside of Georgia. He is at present at the head of the laboratory department of the firm, which occupies a unique position, as they manufacture everything that they can conveniently do with heavy laboratory apparatus, and only buy such chemicals and Pharmaceuticals from the allied industries as it is impossible for the firm to make. This is in addition to his duties and responsibilities in assisting in the management of the firm's business and interests. He received a year's training in the manufacturing end of the business of McKesson & Robbins, New York City, one of the most progressive manufacturing firms in the East, being in charge of their Fulton Street Branch, laboratory department.
