J. Rowe PAUL LLOYD SMITH Paul Lloyd Smith, Athens' post master, was born in the early '70's, at Albany, Missouri, and claims he is a "nationalist" in the matter of descent. His father was a native of Pennsylvania, his mother of Virginia, and he of a "border state." Mr. Smith came to Athens more than twenty years ago from Greene County, Georgia, and with the exception of about four years (spent in the real estate business) has worked in the Athens postoffice, serving as clerk, assistant postmaster and postmaster, assuming charge of the office by appointment in July, 1922. He counts the support received from the citizans of Athens in his contest for the appointment the greatest achievement of his career —and prizes it more than the office—the belief of his fellow citizens that he was entitled to the appointment at the hands of his fellow republicans. Smith confesses to one hobby—or one ambition—"to make the Athens office the best postoffice in Georgia." Additional Comments: From: HISTORY OF ATHENS and CLARKE COUNTY 1923 H. J.
