J. Rowe W. CARLTON THORNTON Alderman Fourth ward. Born in Oconee County. Came to Athens when a child. Educated in city schools and University of Georgia, being a member of the class of 1902 at that institution. Entered railroad work, 1904, serving with various southern roads until 1908, at which time he entered the service of Georgia Railroad. Served in various capacities until 1908, at which time he was promoted to agent. During government control of railroads acted as agent for both Georgia and Southern at Athens. Member First Baptist Church. Member Masonic lodge. Elected to council from Second ward, 1919, serving two years. Elected from Fourth ward, 1922. Member Finance Committee of council.
