Deed Book S, pp. 27-28

Georgia          }  Know all men by these presents that I David Elder Senr of
Clark County  }the County and State Aforesaid for and in Consideration of the
love and affection which I have for and bear towards my Son Joshua Elder of the
County of Henry and State aforesaid and Also for and in Consideration of the Sum
of Five dollars to me in hand paid by the said Joshua Elder the receipt whereof
is hereby acknowledged, have given bargained sold and delivered and do by these
presents give bargain, sell convey and deliver to the said Joshua Elder his
heirs and Assigns a Certain negro girl named America aged twelve or thirteen
years, and her further increase.  To have an To hold said negro girl America and
her further Increase to the said Joshua Elder his heirs and Assigns to his and
their own proper use benefit and behoof forever –
And I the said David Elder Senr bind myself my heirs Executors & Administrators
to warrant and forever defend the title to said negro girl and increase to the
said Joshua Elder his heirs Executors Administrators & Assigns against all and
Every Claim Whatever Conditioned however that is property Shall remain in my
possession during my natural life.
                  In Testimony Whereof I the said David Elder Senr have hereunto
Set my hand & Seal this Twentieth day of March Eighteen hundred and forty four
