Witnesseth that the Said Zadock Cook for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he has and leaves to his Said grand daughter Jerusha Jennings hath given granted and conveyed and told by these presents give grant and convey unto the Said Jerusha Jenning her heirs and assigns a cearting negro woman by the name of Nancy about fifty three years of age. To have and to hold Said negro woman unto her the Said Jerusha Jennings her heirs and assigns together with all singular the rights to the same in any manner belonging to her and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever in fee simple. In testimony whereof the Said Zadock Cook hath herein to set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year written in presence of William Jackson William McLeroy JP Z Cook BACK It is hereby understood that the said Zadok Cook hath resolved to himself the possession and use of said bargained negro Nancy during his natural life this title to her during that time being as absolute and perfect as if this instrument had not exist. Wiliam Jackson James J Jennings NOTES: Z Cook was Zadoc (Zadock) Cook. He was an early resident of Clarke Co. and later served in the GA House and Senate, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives. His parents were Mark and Rachel Cook. The grand-daughter was Jerusha Antoinette Conner, who married James Jackson Jennings. Her parents were Edward Conner and Zadoc's daughter Rebecca. Zadoc lived to be approximately 96 years old and spent his last years in Jerusha and James Jenning's home. He is buried in the Jackson Family Cemetery in Oconee Co. and the home he built in 1814 is still in use. There are photos of his grave marker and the house on the Clarke Co. Rootsweb site.
