Ten years ago the Commercial Bank was a small bank of $50,000.00 capital and with deposits slightly in excess of its capital. Today this bank has a capital of $200,000.00 with average deposits ranging from $900,000.00 to $1,000,000.00 To attempt to assign to any one factor this remarkable growth would be a hard job, but were we asked to express our opinion on the subject we would say that the growth of the bank is due to the general policy consistently maintained by the officers of this institution, of according not only efficient, courteous service, but of adhering to a strict compliance with the spirit and letter of the laws of Georgia as to interest charges. The banking public have come to know that this bank never charges excessive interest or commissions, nor takes advantage of any situation that may face its customers. The Commercial Bank for many years occupied a small office on College Avenue, but the growth of its business necessitated larger quarters, so in 1922 the bank bought property a few doors south of its old quarters and erected one of the most complete banking offices in this section of the state. The new home of the Commercial, with its white tile front, stands out prominently as one of the most attractive buildings in the city, and its interior arrangements are planned to expedite its service. In a large basement are supply rooms, furnace, and storage vault. On the main floor is the main banking office, with cashier's vault and a large separate vault, containing safe deposit boxes for the use of its customers. The door guarding this vault is the strongest door in Northeast Georgia. The individual safe deposit boxes are in various sizes to suit the customers' needs. On the mezzanine floor is the bookkeeping department, directors' room and vault used by the bookkeeping department. The whole office is well ventilated, wall lighted and is altogether attractive. The officers and directors of this bank include some of the most well known and successful business men of Athens and the public generally is predicting for the Commercial a continuance of its remarkable growth and usefulness in the .business life of our section. The officers of the barik^are: Hugh H. Gordon, Jr., President. John E. Talmadge, Jr., Vice-President. James H. Dozier, Vice-President. J. E. Patman, Cashier. J. G. Hancock, Assistant Cashier. J. C.
