Abstract was found in the pension record of Rev War Private Charles Allen [different individual], who received #S17819 while living in Laurens Dist, SC. Was in reply to Mrs. Nellie P. Long then of Philadelphia, PA dated 14 July 1936. "CHARLES ALLEN-S. C. 19509. War of 1812 and Campaign against Creek Indians. Charles Allen was born in Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia: the date of his birth not stated. At the time of the War of 1812, he lived in Watkinsville, Georgia, with his mother and his step-father; the names of his own father, of his brother and of his step-father were not given. June 16, 1871, Charles Allen, aged seventy-one years, of Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia applied for pension which might have been due on account of his service in the War of 1812. It was stated then that when about fourteen years of age, he ran away from his step-father, that he enlisted in Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia, served first as drummer boy, afterwards as private in Captain Bailey's company, that he served also in Captain Mason's company of Infantry, that he was transferred in the fall of 1814, at Fort George, Canada to General Coffe?y's Light Brigade, was ?out to Florida where he served against the Indians, and was discharged in April 1815 at Mobile, Alabama also, that during said service, he was in the battle of Horseshoe with the Creek Indians, was in the battle of Erie in Canada, that he was in the battle of Fort Jackson in Florida and was stationed at Mobile at the time of the battle of New Orleans. His claim for pension was not allowed as he failed to furnish proof of service in the War of 1812 as required by the pension law. This Charles Allen volunteered in Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia, served from June 4 to July 12, 18?35 against the Creek Indians and was discharged at Columbus, Georgia. April 7, 1857, he applied for bounty land which was due on account of his service against the Creek Indians; he was then a resident of Clarke County, Georgia. On this application, he was allowed 160 acres of bounty land on warrant #72445, under the Act of 1855. The soldier married December 26, 1826, in Clarke County, Georgia Elizabeth Lee; the names of her parents, her age, and the date and place of her birth were not shown. No reference was made to children of this Charles Allen.
