ABNEY The Banner, Athens, Georgia , Friday morning, March 9, 1906 Transcribed by C. Epps Bond THE FUNERAL OF MR. T. L. ABNEY ------- Remains of Popular Yong Man Laid to Rest Sunday Afternoon ----- Sunday afternoon at half past three o’clock at the First Baptist church in the presence of a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives, The funeral of the late Mr. Thomas L. Abney was conducted. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, attesting the love and esteem in which the dead young man was held in this community. The services were simple and beautiful in the extreme. The choir consisting of Miss Ellen Mell, Miss Jessie Jackson, Mrs. C. R. Davis, Mr. F. E. Griffith and Prof. Jack Hart, sang as the opening hymn “Asleep in Jesus,” after which Dr. Isaac S. Hopkins read the Scripture lessons. The choir then sang “nearer My God to Thee” and Dr. Hopkins offered prayer. Dr. W.H. Young, pastor of the First Baptist church, preached a sermon of rare beauty and impressiveness and after the singing of the hymn, “Abide with Me,”, the casket was born to the hearse. The interment was in Oconee cemetery. File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/clarke/obits/a/abney11366ob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 1.8 Kb
