Mr. Adair was struck by an automobile driven by Marshall Bell, of Eatonton. Witnesses said the accident was unavoidable and no charges were filed against Mr. Bell. Police were told that Mr. Adair apparently failed to hear the horn on Mr. Bell’s automobile and stepped into the path of the car. Mr. Adair was an uncle of Abit Nix, prominent Athens attorney, of Professor Shields B Adair, of the agronomy department of the State College of Agriculture. The Confederate veteran was a prominent citizen of Oconee county. He was injured in front of the home of his son, J. T. Adair, Sr., with whom he had been living for several years. His son lived on the Athens-Watkinsville road. Mr. Adair had just alighted from the automobile of Homer Draper, a neighbor, and walked around in front of the parked car and into the highway where he was struck by Bell’s automobile. Bell blew his horn as he approached the parked car, witnesses said. Mr. Adair, relatives said, as partly deaf. The veteran would have been 90 years old on April 9, and plans already were underway for a family reunion at the home of his son. Rev. J. T. Grizzle, pastor of the Bogart church, officiated at the funeral services. The pall bearers were the following nephews, Abit Nix, Professor Shields B Adair, R. C. Nix, and Dillard Nix, and his grand-sons, Hoyt D. Dickson and H. G. Dickson. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. D. M. Dickson, of Rutledge, whom he had visited Sunday; Mrs. Robert Poss, of Marietta, and Mrs. Aline Swilling, of Marietta; three sons, J. T. Adair, Sr., of near Watkinsville; F. M. Adair, Denton, Texas, and M. C. Adair, Atlanta; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Hudson, Atlanta, and a brother, Dr. Robin B. Adair, of Atlanta. _______ Mr. Adair made his home for several years with his daughter, Mrs. D. M. Dickson, at old Austin, and was known to many of our people.
