A native of Athens, she was a daughter of the late Earnest and Rose Phillips Eidson. She attended Winterville High School, was a member of the Winterville 1936-37 GA State Championship Basketball Team and a 1939 GA State Tennis Singles Champion and Doubles Champion. Mrs. Allen was a graduate of UGA and taught at the Princeton Elementary School from the 1940's until 1960. She later worked as the secretary at Tuckston United Methodist Church and as Inventory Controller for Athens Janitor Supply until her retirement. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 11, 2001, at 11:00 AM from the graveside at Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Revs. Paul Hanna and Lee McNeil officiating. Survivors include her husband, Clarence R. Allen; Son and daughter-in-law, C. Richard and Jan Wright Allen of Canton; Grandson, Christopher Allen of Canton; Brother and sister-in-law, Hugh L. and Naomi Eidson of Athens; Sister, Frances E. Henry of Germantown, OH; Sisters-in-law, Agnes A. Davis and Evelyn T. Allen of Athens; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Flowers are accepted or memorials to Tuckston United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4175 Lexington Road, Athens, GA 30605. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East is in charge of arrangements.
