Allen Albon E. "Al" Allen, 83, of Athens, died Thursday, February 3, 2000. A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Mr. Allen was a son of the late William N. and Jessie Crow Allen. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II, and had worked in the automobile business. Mr. Allen was retired from Heyward Allen Motor Company and was a member of Princeton United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Saturday, February 5, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, with the Rev. Russell Repetske officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Glenn Allen, Joshua T. Allen, David Hutchinson, Ricky Allen, Jamey Harrison and Bob Thomas served as pallbearers. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn T. Allen; two sons, Larry G. Allen, Watkinsville, and Bob Allen, Colbert; one sister, Agnes Davis, Athens; one brother, Clarence Allen, Athens; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, West, was in charge of arrangements.
