The daughter of Ralph J. and Frances Wyland Bone, she was born in Onslow, Iowa January 10, 1921. Educated in the public schools of Monticello, Iowa, she was a graduate of Grinnell College. Mrs. Anderson taught history and government in the Algonia, Iowa and Boone, Iowa schools. She lived in Alliance, Iowa for 17 years and in Glendale, Ca. for seven before moving to Athens in 1974. She was always interested in education and governmental affairs, served as a volunteer tutor for grade school children, taught Sunday School, and assisted wives of foreign students in learning English. She was an active member of the League of Women Voters and organized the first Head Start in Alliance. She participated in the Athens Council on Aging and the Meals-on-Wheels program. Her friends admired her warm, friendly manner as well as her homemaking skills. An excellent cook, she particularly enjoyed making dozens of cookies and many candies at Christmas. Friends looked forward to her annual Cookie Day. She sewed and knitted various articles, among them baby blankets for her friends. Blessed with a good sense of humor, she collected jokes and passed them on when she visited any friends who may have been house bound or hospitalized. An avid reader, she shared her books with others. She was preceded in death by three brothers. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Charles H. Anderson; son, Jeffrey Anderson, New Castle, Ca.; daughters, Barbara Muratore, Athens, JoEllen Giesbrecht (Mrs. Steve) of Hull and Julie Chapman (Mrs. Carl), Alpharetta; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held Monday, November 29, at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Revs. James Bowden, Mark Harper and Beecher Mathes officiating. Memorials may be made to Meals-on-Wheels program and the Athens Council on Aging. National Cremation Society, Lilburn, was in charge of arrangements.
