McMullan Athens Ruth T. McMullan, 84, of 245 First St. died Friday, Nov. 19, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. McMullan was a daughter of the late O.G. and Eula Greenway Teasley. She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Branch Baptist Church, Elbert County. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jamie Doster officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her husband, Robert A. McMullan; a son, Billy McMullan, Athens; a sister, Mildred Sanders, Elberton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Edgar L. Secrest Jr. Decatur Edgar Lee Secrest Jr., 76, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996. A native of Athens, Mr. Secrest was a son of E.L. "Mr. Eddie" and Evelyn Pratt Secrest. He was an Air Force colonel, pilot and educator. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in commerce. He received a J.D. degree from George Washington University National Law Center, Washington, D.C. While in the Air Force, he earned command pilot status and flew the first postwar peacetime B-29 flight over Tokyo and the U.S.S. Missouri during the peace accord signing. He also performed numerous acts of individual heroism as a pilot, and served 12 years in the office of the secretary of the Air Force as both a congressional and White House liaison. In 1967, he retired from the Air Force to join the administrative staff at Georgia State University, where he taught business law. From 1983-86 he served as academic dean of Montreat-Anderson College, Montreat, N.C. Later, he became a member of the college's board of trustees. He was a member of Decatur Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder for most of his life. He was a leader of the lay renewal movement in the Presbyterian Church and served as chairman of the annual Family Life Conference at Montreat Presbyterian Retreat Center. Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Decatur Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Arlene Murrow Secrest; three sons, E. Lee Secrest III, Decatur, Alan M. Secrest, Annandale, Va., and Stephen Secrest, Alpharetta; two daughters-in-law, Aileen Secrest, Annandale, and Patti Secrest, Alpharetta; a brother, Pratt Secrest, Thomasville; a sister, Katrina Froehlich, Decatur; and four grandchildren, Amy, Stephanie, Stephen and Caroline Lee. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home. Alan M. Alexander Sr. Athens Alan McFarland Alexander Sr., 82, of 110 Milledge Terrace died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996. A native of Fulton County and a resident of Athens since 1981, Mr. Alexander was a son of the late Alan and Eula Potter Alexander. He was preceded in death by a brother, George P. Alexander Sr. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant commander. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. A retired businessman, he was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum. Duncan. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melisa Crawford Roberts. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Jones Hartwell Maybell Odister Jones, 67, of 239 College Ave. died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Jones was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pauline Burton Odister Jones and the widow of John Wesley Jones. She was a member of Cedar Spring Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at New Hope Full Gospel Baptist Church with the Rev. T.L. Jackson officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon.
