A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Darden lived in Clarke County most of her life. She was a daughter of the late Will Collins and Daisy Moore Collins. She was the widow of Achelle "Buddy" Darden. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fork Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. James Allen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include a daughter, Hattie L. Hughes, Athens; a brother, Buddy Lee Collins, Lexington; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Hurley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. William Stephens Sr. Covington William Garfield Stephens Sr., formerly of Athens, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 1996. Mr. Stephens was a son of Darlene Strong, Covington. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Covington. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery, Oxford. Survivors in addition to his mother include three sons, William Garfield Stephens Jr., Timothy K. Stephens and McAllister Stephens, all of Athens; five brothers, Ralph Strong, George Strong, Johnny Strong, Robert Strong and Willie Strong, all of Covington; two sisters, Diane Strong and Mary McGordon, both of Covington; aunts and uncles; and nieces and nephews. Couch, 78, of 309 Park Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1996. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Couch was a son of the late Weldon Couch and Ollie Oldham Couch. He was a retired auditor for the Georgia Department of Revenue. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was president of Living Word Worship Center Brotherhood. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Living Word Worship Center with the Revs. C.E. Askew and Richard James officiating. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, "Rella" Crumley Couch; three daughters, Josephine Strickland and Diane Chapman, both of Jefferson, and Angela Howard-Roberts, Dahlonega; a son, Joseph P. Couch Jr., Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Virginia Aultman and Sara Phillips, both of Jefferson; a brother, Donald Couch, Griffin; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Jackson Funeral Home, Jefferson. Freddy Welborn Royston Freddy Lee Welborn, 48, of 191 Hope St., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1996. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Welborn was a son of Zora Belle Royston Welborn and the late Moody Welborn. He was the owner and operator of Welborn Auto Repair and Wrecker Service. He was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Pruitte Funeral Home with the Revs. Williard Crider and Milton Burdette officiating. Burial will be in Franklin Memorial Garden, South. Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Carol Jordan Welborn, Royston; two sons, Freddy Lee Welborn Jr. and Jeffery Michael Welborn, both of Royston; two brothers, Thomas Welborn, Lavonia, and Stanley Welborn, Elberton; a sister, Betty Sue Seymour, Bowman; a grandchild; and two stepgrandchildren. Gladys Wallis Elberton Gladys Vashti Moore Wallis, 91, of 62 Tate St., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Wallis was a daughter of the late Albert George Moore and Udah Lou Adams Moore. She was the widow of Col. John P. Wallis. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a homemaker and a member of Elberton First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Elberton United Methodist Church with Drs. Wallace Wheeles and C.E. Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Survivors include four sons, John Wallis Jr., Miami, and Thomas Wallis, George Wallis and Jimmy Wallis, all of Elberton; a daughter, Margaret Hutchinson, Thomaston; a brother, W.E. Moore, Lexington, Ky.; two sisters, Grace Brown, Royston, and Frances Floyd, Bowersville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
