Brown Hartwell Mal J. Brown, 98, of 915 Bio Church Road died Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Isom J. and Emma Eavenson Brown. He was retired owner and operator of Brown's Garage, Miami, Fla. He was a member of Bio Baptist Church. He was a Marine veteran of World War I having served in the First Marine Air Squadron. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Strickland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Lindsey officiating. Burial will be in Bio Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include a son, James Brown, Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Frances Brown, Hartwell, and Joy Potter, Dewy Rose; a brother, Russell Brown, Dewy Rose; a sister, Carolyn Garver, Springfield, Ohio; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bio Baptist Church Building Fund, 2145 Bio Church Road, Hartwell, 30643. J.C. Cantrell Alto J.C. Cantrell, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996. A native of Habersham County, Mr. Cantrell was a son of Carrie Bell Balew Cantrell, Salisbury, N.C., and the late Thomas A. Cantrell. He was a retired correctional officer at Lee Arrendale Correctional Institution with several years of service. He was a former officer with the Cornelia Police Department. He attended Alto Congregational Holiness Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Whitfield Funeral Home Chapel, Baldwin, with the Revs. Leon Brown and O.L. McCullough officiating. Burial will be in Alto Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery. Edna Oglesby Goss Elberton Edna Oglesby Goss, of 326 Heard St. died Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Goss was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Minnie Alexander Oglesby. She was a member of Elberton First United Methodist Church, the Lena Childs Sunday School Class, the Pilot Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a retired office manager for Gallant Belks. Mrs. Browning was a daughter of the late Jesse and Evelyn Browning. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Don Pennington will officiate. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements. Ruth B. Edwards Comer Ruth Booth Edwards, 90, of Route 1, Box 418, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 1996. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Edwards was a daughter of the late George B. and Mildred Seymour Booth and widow of George W. Edwards. She was a homemaker and a member of Meadow Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Meadow Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Coile officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p.m. Survivors include a son, Clark G. Edwards, Comer; two brothers, J.N. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Scarborough was a son of the late Jim Tom and Fannie Mills Scarborough. He was a bus and taxi agent for 14 years and served as coroner for Elbert County for 14 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann S. Smith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hicks Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Phillip Hart and Albert Miller officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Willamette Brown Scarborough; three sons, Cecil Scarborough, Gene Scarborough and Morris Wayne Scarborough, all of Elberton; a daughter, Betty Jo Haynes, Elberton; a brother, John H. A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Sinnemon was a daughter of the late George and Maggie Hicks Fennell and widow of William Monroe Sinnemon. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry D. Sinnemon, and two grandchildren. She was a former employee of Carwood Manufacturing Co. and was retired from W.T. Grant Co. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
