Davenport Atlanta Dona Geneva Smith Davenport, 67, of 1050 Ponce de Leon Ave. died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Davenport was a daughter of Mae Crenshaw Smith Morris of Anderson, S.C., and the late Charlie Smith. She was a secretary and a member of Inman Park Church of God. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, with the Rev. John D. Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include a sister, Edna Edwards, Anderson, S.C.; a half brother, Tommy Morris, Cornelia; and a half sister, Ruby Hoffman, Carnesville. Pallbearers are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Richard H. Smith Elberton Richard Herndon Smith, 76, of 2292 Lexington Highway died Saturday, Nov. 2, 1996. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late John R. and Sarah Jones Smith. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a retried granite foreman and farmer. He was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Jack McVeigh, Russell Bruce and Steve Forsyth officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Margaret King Smith; two daughters, Sarah Seigler, Elberton, and Diane Wilhite, Power Springs; four sons, Alton Smith, Doug Smith and Leo Smith, all of Elberton, and Richard Smith, Stephen; a sister, Helen Erwin, Elberton; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church. Jodie C. House Statham Jodie C. House, 90, died Monday, Nov. 4, 1996. A native of what was then Jackson County and has been annexed into Barrow County, Mrs. House was a daughter of the late Maude and Mary Le Pruitt Casper and the widow of James Alvin House. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Chapel Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Clack, Winder; a son, Richard B. House, Winder; a brother, Ernest Casper, Florida; two sisters, Clara Morrow, Winder, and Edna Patton, Lawrenceville; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. Carter-Stewart Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements. Archie B. Parten Royston Archie B. Parten, 84, of 18 Royston Homes died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Parten was a son of the late Obediah and Nellie Carey Parten. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Parten, John Parten and Jim Parten, and two sisters, Mertha Parten and Mattie Lee Smith. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Pruitte Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dennis Kesler officiating. The family is at the home of Bill and Brenda Seagraves, 1795 Hale Crossing Road, Royston. Betty Jane Gooch Comer Betty Jane Gooch, 58, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 1996. Miss Gooch was a daughter of the late Ernest and Lillie Helton Gooch. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Luther Gooch, C.W. Gooch, Arthur Gooch, Walter Gooch and Carl Gooch, and a sister, Lucille Gooch. She was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Larry Phillips and John Kesler officiating. Burial will be in Winterville Cemetery. A native of Monroe, Mr. Cox was a son of the late Rev. Bonnie Lee and Mary Elizabeth Cox. He was preceded in death by a son, William S. Cox. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a retired teacher and sales manager and a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Berry Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Elberton, with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery, Elberton. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Cox; a daughter, Nancy C. Baize, Charleston, S.C.; two sons, David N. Cox, James Island, S.C., and George D. Mary Linn Crowell Athens Mary Linn Crowell, 55, of 175 Red Fox Run died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996. A native of Salinas, Kan., Mrs. Crowell was a daughter of Ottis and Elanor Scott. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Colorado State University and a master's degree from the University of Georgia. She was employed by the Clarke County School System as food services director. She was a licensed dietitian and a member of the Georgia Food Services Association, P.E.O., the American School Food Services Association and was on the board of the Clarke County chapter of the American Heart Association. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Covenant Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Bowden officiating. Survivors include her husband, Wayne Crowell; a daughter, Cheryl Linn Devaney, Atlanta; a son, Dr. Scott Crowell, Tampa; and three grandchildren, Nicholas Stockdill, Preston Devaney and Gorrett Devaney. Bridges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Robert E. 'Bob' Poss Jr. Athens Robert E. "Bob" Poss Jr., 73, died Monday, Nov. 5, 1996. A native of Athens, Mr. Poss was the son of the late Robert E. Poss Sr. and Bertha Thomas Poss. He was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Harrison Poss. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Athens. He was an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps before returning to Athens to join his father in the family businesses, Poss Famous Foods, Poss Barbecue Restaurant and the concessions contract for University of Georgia sporting events. He attended the university, where he lettered on the 1942 Rose Bowl team and was a member of Chi Phi fraternity. He was active in civic arenas as an appointee to the State Food Service Advisory Council. He served on the boards of directors of First American Bank and Trust and the YMCA. He was a past president of the Athens Touchdown Club as well as a member of the Athens City Club, Athens Country Club, University of Georgia Letterman's Club and the Gridiron Secret Society of University of Georgia. He was also a member of the President's Club of the university. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Athens with the Revs. Garrett Wilder, Jon Appleton and Jerry Varnado officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Betty Burchfield Poss; two daughters, Peggy Sue Williams, Athens, and Cynthia Ann Poss, Hilton Head; a son, Robert E. " Bobby" Poss III, Athens; a granddaughter, Nanci Williams, three grandsons, Michael Williams, Randy Williams and Eric Moye; and a great-grandson, Samuel Poss Williams.
