Welch Athens Corrie Louise Welch, 79, of Milledge Heights died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996. A native of Athens, Mrs. Welch was a daughter of the late John and Susie Carter Carnes. She was the widow of George L. Welch. She was retired from Chicopee Manufacturing and was of the Baptist faith. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Carnes officiating. Survivors include a son, Lamar Welch, Athens; a stepdaughter, Sarah B. Sims, Ila; a brother, John Carnes, Milton, Fla.; a sister, Luenell Smith, Athens; and a grandchild. The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Welch, 235 Segrest Circle. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mercer J. Leftwich Sr. Elberton Mercer Jefferson Leftwich Sr., 85, of 309 Tate St. died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996. A native of DeKalb County, Mr. Leftwich was a son of the late Jeff and Sadie Leftwich and the widower of Jimmie Thomason Leftwich. He was a retired supervisor and stone cutter, and was a part-time employee of Berry Funeral Home. He was a member of Doves Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Gatlin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Guest, Elberton; a son, Mercer Leftwich Jr., Augusta; three sisters, Ellie Miller, Conyers, Sara Jo Pope, Lithonia, and Helen Blackmon, Springfield, Ore.; a brother, R.L. Leftwich, Lithonia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Roger and Carolyn Guest, 2183 Anderson Highway. Emory K. Sullivan Homer Emory K. Sullivan, 80, of 1727 U.S. 441 North died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996. A native of Banks County, Mr. Sullivan was a son of the late Lee and Daisey Lee Browner Sullivan. He was an engineer for Sullivan Construction Co. and former chairman of the Banks County Board of Commissioners. He was a member of Homer United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at Homer United Methodist Church with the Revs. Ed Cook and Chris Burton officiating. Burial will be in Banks Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife, Edith Chambers Sullivan; two sons, David Sullivan and Charles Sullivan, both of Homer; a daughter, Syble Holland, Acworth; a sister, Bonnie Hill, Homer; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Charles Sullivan, 944 Yonah Homer Road. Little-Ward Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ruth M. Barton Winder Ruth M. Barton, 79, of 18 May St. died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996. A native of Barrow County, Mrs. Barton was a daughter of the late Dewey H. and Desser DeLay House. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Wise-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Fleeman officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Survivors include a daughter, Frances Martin, Jefferson; two sons, James R. Tanner, Crawford, and Jerry W. Tanner, Easley, S.C.; four sisters, Lois Kinsey and Frances Chandler, both of Auburn, Dorothy Marlowe, Gainesville, and Deweylene Swords, Winder; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Mrs. Frances Martin, and will receive friends from 3-4 this afternoon at the funeral home. Bertice Haggard Ila Bertice 'Bert' Hix Haggard, 95, of Route 2, Box 2361, Fort Lamar Road, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 1996 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sam and Sarah Sartain. She had lived with them for the last 10 years, and was under their constant care for the last three years. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Haggard was a daughter of the late Davis and Sarah Black Hix. She was the widow of William Ras Haggard. She was the oldest member of Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church, having belonged for more than 83 years. She was a homemaker, having helped raise three generations of children. She was also an avid quilter, and prepared Communion bread and wine for her late husband's Primitive Baptist Church for more than 20 years. The last car she drove was a T-model Ford. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Hermon Presbyterian Church, Ila, with the Revs. Martha Courie and Albert Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Ila Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors, in addition to her daughter and son-in-law, include two granddaughters, Barbara S. Black Fogg, Ila, and Brenda S. Zareie, Lawrenceville; two grandsons, Barry Sartain and Bill Sartain, both of Ila; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ben Black, Breigh Black, Jessica Sartain, Amanda Sartain, Will Sartain, Eli Sartain, Nate Sartain, Cam Zareie, Cyrus Zareie and Cas Zareie.
