A native of Madison County, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late Peter D. and Darthula Paul Patton. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Hull Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include six nieces and seven nephews. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements. Joseph D. Box Greensboro Joseph Donald Box, 74, of 1841 Madison Highway died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. A native of Clay County, Ark., Mr. Box was a son of the late William Mason Box and Nancy Viola Byers. He was a Navy veteran who attended the University of Arkansas and owned and operated a television repair service. He was of the Catholic faith. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Survivors include a son, Joseph D. Box, Bacliff, Texas; three brothers, Bill Box, Homestead, Fla., John Box, Greensboro, and Ted Box, Wetumpka, Ala.; and two grandchildren. McCommons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Marguerite G. Hitt Rome Marguerite Groover Hitt, 87, formerly of Toccoa, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. A native of Forsyth County, Mrs. Hitt was a daughter of the late Claude and Maude Phillips Groover and the widow of Waldo Hitt. She was active at Duluth United Methodist Church, where she was president of United Methodist Women, and at Epworth United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Roswell Garden Club and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Rome. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Toccoa Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Watson officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn H. Clifton, Rome; two sons, H. Waldo Hitt Jr., McComb, Miss., and Robert L. Hitt, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; three sisters, Nettie L. Manley, Roswell, Wynelle G. Hosea, Alpharetta, and Claudia G. Jordan, Toccoa; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa. Piercy, 87, of 554 Cherokee Ridge died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Mr. Piercy was a son of the late Thomas T. and Elizabeth Bearden Piercy. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and Western Kentucky University. He was an attorney, real estate broker and appraiser and was a deacon at Beech Haven Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Bernstein Funeral Home with Dr. Stewart Simms and Dr. Henry Fields officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Providence, Ky. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wood Piercy; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas F. and Nancy Piercy, Zionsville, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Robert Pless, Martin; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Carl Hale Statham Carl Hale, 79, died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. A native of Barrow County, Mr. Hale was a son of the late Dawson Lee and Estell Thurmond Hale. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a former mayor and councilman of Statham and was retired from the Social Security Administration. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home Memory Chapel, Winder, with the Revs. Paul Freeman and Bobby Anthony officiating. Burial will be in Statham Cemetery.
