Armour Jr. Washington Vernon A. "V.A." Armour Jr., 51, of 267 Young Road died Monday, Dec. 9, 1996. A native of Wilkes County, Mr. Armour was a son of the late Mae Hubbard and Vernon A. Armour Sr. He was a self-employed contractor and was a Baptist. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Washington-Wilkes Memorial Garden with the Rev. Donnie Berry officiating. Survivors include two sons, Joseph C. Armour and Vernon H. Armour, both of Sandersville; a daughter, Tonya McNure, Sandersville; two brothers, Henry T. Armour, Washington, and Horace Armour, Lexington; five sisters, Dot A. Moore, Washington, Pauline Queen and Kathleen Armour, both of Lexington, Mae Lou Pasnak, Alton, N.Y., and La Nell Chafin, Crawford; six grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Armstrong Lexington Robert Lewis Armstrong, of Route 1, Box 1342, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 1996. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Armstrong was a son of the late Lewis and Cora Armstrong and the widower of Rissie Mae Huff Armstrong. He was preceded in death by six children. He was a member of New Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served with the board of deacons and the senior choir. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at the church with the Revs. C.S. Stevens and S.A. Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Eatonton, Mrs. Ball was a daughter of Lou Barksdale and Milner Smith Shivers and the widow of Edward Donald Ball Sr. She graduated from Shorter College, Rome, and Merson College of Oratory, Boston. She was a teacher at Huntingdon College (then Nomen's College), Montgomery, Ala.; at Ward Belmont, Nashville, Tenn.; and at Eatonton High School. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Pine Grove Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Milner S. Ball, Athens; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bone Sr., 75, of 301 Charlie Cooper Road died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996. A native of Paulding County, Mr. Bone was a son of the late Clifford Anderson and Mamie Estelle Duke Bone. He was a retired police officer and a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Lithonia. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. James H. Buck Athens Professor James Harold Buck, 72, of 248 Moss Side Drive died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996. A native of Lima, Ohio, Mr. Buck was a son of the late Harold and Doris Good Buck. He lived in Athens for 29 years. Mr. Buck earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington, a master's from Stanford University and a doctorate from American University. He served in the Army for 25 years and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He taught at West Point Military Academy and came to the University of Georgia in 1987, serving as professor of Asian history and associate vice president for academic affairs. He retired in 1984 as professor emeritus. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Marsh officiating. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Buck; three daughters, Jan Filler, Julie Thompson and Nancy Buck; two sons-in-law; and three grandsons. He was a manager at Morgan Sportwear and owned Oynk Embroidery & Monogramming Co., Rutledge. He was a foreman at Lustberg-Nash Co. and, during World War II, at Harvin Manufacturing Co, Wortsburro, Pa. He was a member of Wall Kill Engine County Bowling League, BPOE Elks Club in Athens, VFW in Madison and Georgia Kiwanis Club, and was former president of Middletown City League.
