A native of Clarke County, Mr. Jarrells was a son of the late Owen Willis. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Homer, with the Rev. G.T. Bolton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his mother, Anner Jarrells, Athens; a son, Stantavious Maxwell, Royston; two daughters, Ariel Callaway and Standria Walker, both of Athens; a brother, Steven Scott, Athens; three sisters, Stephanie and Bettina Scott, both of Athens, and Latoyna Scrivner, Glenvurnie, Md.; and a grandmother, Geneva Willis, Washington, D.C. The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hurley's Funeral Home. 'Red' Wallace Commerce William Wesley "Red" Wallace, 67, of 338 Stephens Road died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996. A native of Jefferson County, Ala., Mr. Wallace was a son of the late John Anderson and Myrtie Epps Wallace. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Little County Church with the Revs. Jimmy Owensby, Charles Elrod and Steve Whisnant officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Claudia W. Wallace, four children, Johnny Wallace and Wayne Wallace, both of Commerce, Carl Wallace, Pendergrass, and Maurie Robinson, Commerce; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Ivie Funeral Home. John Merritt Hartwell John Samuel Merritt, 84, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Merritt was a son of the late Edward and Cora Baker Merritt. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m Wednesday at Zion CME Church, Hartwell, with the Rev. Vanessee Burns officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Carreda Eurene Jordan Merritt; three daughters, Laura Merritt, Louisville, Ky., and Gloria Merritt and Eleanor Merritt, both of Hartwell; four sons, Gregory Merritt, Hartwell, Jeffery Merritt, Jacksonville, Fla., Joseph Merritt, Minneapolis, and Matthew Swilling, Savannah; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The family is at the home of Gloria Merritt, 78 Grove Hill Road, Hartwell. John Carlson Jr. Colbert John Carlson Jr., 71, of Route 1, formerly of Elberton, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Carlson was a son of the late John Carlson Sr. and Mary Nancy Vaughter Carlson. Retired from the textile industry, he was a former member of the National Guard. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church, Elberton. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m today at Berry Funeral Home, Elberton, with the Revs. David McConnell and Jack McVeigh officiating. Survivors include two aunts, Addie Vaughter, Florida, and Gussie Vaughter, Elberton; and a number of cousins. A native of Opelika, Ala., she was a daughter of the late George J. Hornsby Sr. and Amanda Viola Capps Hornsby. She was involved in Encouragers Sunday School class and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church, Tucker. She was a homemaker. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Vern Coolidge and Howard Pyle officiating. Burial will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens. Survivors include her husband, Charles Earl "Bud" Finney; two daughters, Susan Powers, Toccoa, and Amanda Capps, Tucker; a son, Alan Finney, Toccoa; two sisters, Ruth Henderson, Dunwoody, and Betty Mackey, Marietta; three brothers, George Hornsby, Stockbridge, Ernest Landrum, Tyler, Texas, and Thomas Landrum, Garland, Texas; and eight grandchildren. 'Billie' Abrams Elberton Willie "Billie" Duncan Snellings Abrams, 73, of 1043 Ruck- ersville Road died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Abrams was a daughter of the late Duncan and Madge Snellings Snellings. She was preceded in death by a two sisters, Corrine Snellings Stuart, Wilmington, Del., and Frances Snelling Ruff, Elberton; and a brother, Harry Snellings, Tampa, Fla. She was a homemaker and a retired waitress. The family has requested private memorial services to be held at a later day and time. Burial will be in Falling Creek Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery at a later day and time. Survivors include a son, Charles P. Revty, Woodstock, N.Y.; a sister, Jewette S. Wilson, Elberton: four brothers, Thomas Snellings, Doris Snellings, Charles Snellings and Gene Snellings, all of Elberton; and two grandchildren. Esther Giles Watkinsville Esther Irene Giles, 79, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996. A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, Miss Giles was a daughter of the late William Wesley and Della Christopher Giles. She was retired from Reliance Electric and was a former medical secretary in the health care field. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church, Watkinsville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Antioch Christian Church with the Rev. David Perkins and Dr. Franklin Shumake officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Lois Tolbert, Bishop, and Nellie Giles, Athens; and two brothers, John Giles and A.S. "Bud" Giles, both of Watkinsville. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Arthur Bowick's Oconee Chapel, Watkinsville. Joe Strong Hartwell Joseph Marion "Joe" Strong, 78, of 483 Cade St. died Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996. A native of Macon County, Mr. Strong was a son of the late Joseph M. and Jesse Elizabeth Strong. He was retired from Blue Bird Body in Fort Valley, where he worked in grounds maintenance. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Mason and a member of Fort Valley Church. Graveside services be at 3 p.m. today at Nancy Hart Memorial Park with the Rev. Jerry Newton officiating. Survivors include his wife, Jean Rowland; four daughters, Carol Venable, Tega Cay, S.C., Kay Willis, Alpharetta, Sandra Baker, Griffin, and Pat Harper, Hartwell; two brothers, Carey Strong, Unadilla, and Jerrell Strong, Macon; and eight grandchildren.
