A native of Clarke County, she had lived here all of her life. She was the daughter of the late James Edward and Fannie Finley Barnett and widow of the late Asbury V. Gunter. She was the mother of Walter E. Gunter. She was retired from J.C. Penney Co. and was a member of Winterville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lord and Stephens Chapel, West, with the Rev. Phil Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include her son, Malvin D. Gunter, Athens; Coile Barnett, Ohio; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, West, is in charge of arrangements. Blanche Rosser, Athens Blanche A. Rosser, 84, of 9122 Jefferson River Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996. A native of Franklin County who had lived in Athens since 1945, Mrs. Rosser was a daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Charles A. Jordan, Sr. She was a homemaker who taught Sunday school at West End Baptist Church for many years. Mrs. Rosser was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her love and concern for others and many thoughtful deeds made her a beloved resident in the small south Jackson County community where she lived. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Memorial Park, with the Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Survivors include, in addition to her husband, Harry Rosser, Athens; a son, Kenneth Rosser, Athens; a daughter, Harriett Harrington Wild, Athens; five grandchildren, Kimberly and Cameron Harrington, both of Atlanta, Laura, David and Stephen Rosser, all of Athens; a great-grandchild, Ashley Harrington, Atlanta; two sisters, Bertie Mae Ware and Mary Jane Webb, both of Royston; and several nieces and nephews. Joseph Spalding Jr., Louisville, Ky. Joseph Daniel Spalding, Jr., 67, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 1996, at Suburban Medical Center, Louisville, Ky. A native of Louisville, Ky., Mr. Spalding was a son of the late John B. Spalding and the former Mary Oma Leake. He was a retired self-employed builder, developer and real estate broker. Funeral services will be at 12 noon Monday at St. Martins of Tours Catholic Church, Louisville, Ky. Burial will follow in Cave Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Survivors include his fiancee, Maria P. Queenester Turner, Detroit Queenester Turner, 31, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996. A native of Oglethorpe County, Miss Turner was a daughter of J.B. Turner, Jr., and the late Cleester Johnson Turner. She was a nursing student. She was a member of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Old Spring Hill Baptist Church, Philomath, with the Rev. Michael Gresham officiating. Haley, 72, of 1842 Chambers Road, formerly of Athens, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center after an extended illness. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Haley was a son of the late Pinkney Farris and Lelia Long Haley. He was retired from security work. He was a member of the Corning, N.Y., V.F.W. and Masonic Lodge #241, Lavonia. He was a veteran of World War II and member of Grace Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Friday at Carpenter's Funeral Home, Corning, N.Y., with the Rev. James Withers officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaver Dams Cemetery, Beaver Dams, N.Y. A native of Madison County, Mr. Long was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon at the Old Athens Road Baptist Church where he had also taught Sunday school. He had been employed as a supply clerk for Con Agra Poultry Company. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, Madison County with the Rev. Glen Guest, the Rev. Dayton Long and the Rev. Fred Breed will officiate. Internment will be in the church's cemetery. Survivors include, in addition to his wife, Mrs. Virginia Long, Lula; a daughter and son-in-law. Linda and Dennis Hollifield, Gainesville; four grandchildren, Kim and Mark Powell, Ben and Jon Hollifield, all of Gainesville; two great-grandchildren, Leigh Ann and Mary Alden Powell, both of Gainesville; a sister, Ida Rea Vaughn, Gainesville; special people in the life of Mr. Long, Shirley Smith and family; and a number of nieces and nephews. An Oconee County native, Mrs. Mobley was a daughter of Inez Long, Milledgeville. She was a retired insurance agent with Charlie Williams Insurance Agency, Warner Robbins. She was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bernstein Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Bill Tyre and the Rev. Kenneth Jordan officiating.
