Pond St. died Friday, Dec. 27, 1996. A native of Habersham County, Mrs. Ayers was a daughter of the late William Burton and Clara Whitfield Meeks and the widow of James Patrick Ayers. She was a member of Cornelia Christian Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating. Burial will be in Toccoa City Cemetery. Survivors include three sons, James M. Adams, Columbus, and James R. Ayers and Steven P. Ayers, both of Toccoa; two sisters, Linda Williams, Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Jeannette Martin, Seneca, S.C.; two brothers, Lewis A. Meeks, Toccoa, and William C. Meeks, Cornelia; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers are requested to assemble at the funeral home 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The family is at their respective residences and will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Billy Joe Ball Austin, Texas Billy Joe Ball, 71, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996. Mr. Ball was a retired professor of the University of Georgia and lived in Athens from 1946 to 1986. No services are planned. Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas 78705 is in charge of arrangements. Clint Barrentine Athens Clinton Howell Barrentine, 28, of 160 Dudley Drive died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Barrentine was a son of Carol B. Austin and the late John C. Barrentine. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of Beech Haven Baptist Church. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a stepfather, the Rev. Ray Austin, Athens; a sister, Mollie Barrentine, Atlanta; and two grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Clark Ellison, Hull. Cabe Toccoa Verlyn Farris Cabe, 80, of Route 1, Carnes Creek Community died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. A native of Franklin, N.C., Mr. Cabe was a son of the late Honie Hilliard and Viola Jane Grist Cabe and the widower of Joan White Cabe. He was a retired building contractor and a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church and Men's Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Monday Morning Coffee Club, Woodmen of the World and Toccoa Masonic Lodge 309. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the church with the Revs. Tim Miller and Robert Randall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include three daughters, India Stewart, Joetta Ivester and Sherri McAllister, all of Toccoa; a sister, Elizabeth Ivester, Cornelia; a brother, Harold Cabe, Duluth; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Dalton Jr., 58, of 177 Hanover Circle died Thursday, Dec. 26, 1996. A native of Morgantown, W.Va., Mr. Dalton was a son of the late Marie I. Davis and Joseph A. Dalton Sr. He was the national sales manager for Titon Industries, Atlanta, and a member of F&AM Masonic Lodge 3, Morgantown, W.Va., Scottish Rite and the Shrine Temple. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Davenport was a son of the late Howard and Rosa Lee Davenport and a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Lexington. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Revs. Casey Stevens, Service Hurst, Charles Mack, C.M. Hawkins, Hubert Dotson and Troy Waymon officiating. Strickland Commerce James Lewis Strickland of 164 Hill St. died Sunday, Dec. 22, 1996. Mr. Strickland was a son of Cavin and Luvenia Strickland, Commerce, was educated in the Jackson County School System and was a U.S. veteran.
