A native of Madison County, Mrs. Poss was a daughter of the late O.T. and Lizzie Brown Kidd and was the widow of L.C. Poss. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Poss, and stepmother, Jessie Kidd. She was a homemaker and a member of Meadow Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Meadow Baptist Church with the Revs. Tracy Sims, Bob Ballard and Eugene Pettyjohn officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Vera Manning Broome Union Point Vera Evelyn Manning Broome, 90, of Georgia Highway 44 died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996. A native of Fulton County, Mrs. Broome was a daughter of the late Walter L. and Rosa Lee Dorsey and was the widow of Len B. "Jack" Broome. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Union Point, United Methodist Women, Pilot Club of Greene County and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a retired bookkeeper for Wilson-McKan Co. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Callaway Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Higdon officiating. Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Broome Sack, Comer; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Doris D. Jones Savannah Doris Dorsey Jones, 65, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996. A native of White County, Mrs. Jones was president of United Methodist Women. She was a member of P.E.O., Exchangettes Club, Savannah, and Whitfield United Methodist Church. Mary Turk Homer Mary Turk of Mulberry Street died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 1996. A native of Banks County, she was a daughter of the late J. Jackson and Mamie Griggs Turk. She was a graduate of Piedmont College and a retired elementary school teacher who taught in Habersham and Banks counties. She was a member of Homer Presbyterian Church, serving as organist. A native of Fulton County and a resident of Athens since 1981, Mr. Alexander was a son of the late Alan and Eula Potter Alexander. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant commander. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Moss-Stovall-Neal Funeral Home. Edgar L. Secrest Jr. Decatur Edgar Lee Secrest Jr., 76, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1996. A native of Athens, Mr. Secrest was a son of E.L. "Mr. Eddie" and Evelyn Pratt Secrest. He was an Air Force colonel, pilot and educator. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in commerce. He received a J.D. degree from George Washington University National Law Center, Washington, D.C. While in the Air Force, he earned command pilot status and flew the first postwar peacetime B-29 flight over Tokyo and the U.S.S. Missouri during the peace accord signing. He also performed numerous acts of individual heroism as a pilot, and served 12 years in the office of the Secretary of the Air Force as both a congressional and White House liaison. In 1967, he retired from the Air Force to join the administrative staff at Georgia State University, where he taught business law. From 1983-86 he served as academic dean of Montreat-Anderson College, Montreat, N.C. Later, he became a member of the college's board of trustees. He was a member of Decatur Presbyterian Church and served as a church elder for most of his life. He was a leader of the lay renewal movement in the Presbyterian Church and served as chairman of the annual Family Life Conference at Montreat Presbyterian Retreat Center. Funeral services will be at noon Monday at Decatur Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Arlene Murrow Secrest; three sons, E. Lee Secrest III, Decatur, Alan M. A native of Gainesville, Mr. Hampton was a son of the late Martha Fleeman and J. Hiram Hampton Sr. He graduated from Colbert High School and the University of Georgia. He was a member of Alpha Zeta honorary fraternity and the Scabbard & Blade. He was retired from the Army and worked for Gainesville Milling and Colbert Seed.
