Wheeler Parkway died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997. A native of Tyler, Texas, Mrs. Gifkins was a daughter of the late John Alexander Smith and Hallie Park and the widow of Douglas Gifkins. She was an editor with the commandant's office at Fort Gordon and was of the Methodist faith. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Greensboro City Cemetery with Father John Via officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Katherine Celeste Gifkins-Sumpter, Waverly, Va., and Harriett Turner-Gifkins, Augusta; a sister, Katherine Percy, Daulton; a brother, James P. Smith, Greensboro; and two grandchildren. McCommons Funeral Home, Greensboro, is in charge of arrangements. Carol Hammond Statham Carol Carruth Hammond, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Hammond was a daughter of the late Bob and Mattie Harris Carruth and the widow of Harold Hammond. She was a retired seamstress with Empire Manufacturing and a member of Statham United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Barrow Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Wade Thomas officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Perkins, Winder, and Donna Maxey, Statham; a brother, C.L. Carruth, Winder; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Smith Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements. James Massey Commerce James Dennis Massey, 50, of 351 Piedmont St. died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997. A native of Cobb County, Mr. Massey was a son of James Austin Massey of Commerce and the late Winnie Cheek Massey. He was a retired grocery store manager and a member of Milford Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Grey Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Manus officiating. Survivors, in addition to his father, include two sons, Brian Massey and Scott Massey, both of Marietta; and two brothers, Ken Massey, Marietta, and Stanley Massey, Lithia Springs.
