Carter Hartwell Frances Wilburn Carter, 54, of 203 Holly St. died Saturday, August 2, 1997. A native of Greenville County, S.C., Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Monroe Stewart and Elizabeth Nixon Wilburn. She was a graduate of Braneu College, a member of the Phi Mu sorority, a member of the Hartwell Junior Service League and a retired Hart County school teacher. She was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. Herschel R. Atkinson officiating. Survivors include her husband, William P. Carter, two sons, David McMullan Carter, Hartwell, and William Stewart Carter, Fresno, Calif.; and a sister, Rebecca W. Wahlen, Shelby, N.C. Nannie Lee Dial Athens Nannie Lee Dial of 330 Talmadge Drive died Saturday, August 2, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Dial was a daughter of the late Thomas L. and Ruth Shackleford Dial. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Athens and a retired assistant secretary-treasurer of Athens Federal. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Grady Wigley and Dr. William Britt officiating. Survivors include her sister, Hazel D. Curtis, Athens; four nieces and two nephews. The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, East, from 4-6 p.m. today. A native of Glynn County, Mrs. Fowler was a daughter of Frank woods of Toccoa and the late Nellie Ann Minchew Woods. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. Winnie Barron Lockhart, 98, of 58 Long Forest Drive died Tuesday, July 29, 1997. Mrs. Lockhart was a daughter of the late James C. and Mary Ann Fry Barron and a member of Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church of Gaffney, S.C. A native of Florence, Ala., Mrs. Moore was a daughter of Irene Pack Mixon of Carnesville and the late James Monroe Mitchell. A native of Wilkes County, Mrs. Nash was a daughter of the late Thomas Armour and Mattie Combs and the widow of William Thomas Nash Sr. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Nash Noggle. A native of Americus, Mr. Patterson lived most of his life in Philadelphia, but spent the past year in Athens. Memorial services will be at 9:30 a.m. today at the Unitarian universalist Fellowship Church on Timothy Road with Minister Terrell Balof officiating. Survivors include a son, Cary Patterson Sr., Athens; three daughters, Denise Patterson, Gloria Patterson and Kathy Patterson, all of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren. A native of Walton County, Mrs. Ruark was a daughter of the late Johnny G. and Julie Cox Malcom. She was a retired homemaker and the widow of George Lee Ruark. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Sayer. She was a retired district manager for the Athens Daily News and a member of the Canon Church of God. Jean Steer Athens Jean Kell Steer, 74, of 335 Beechwood Drive died Thursday, July 31, 1997. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Steer was a daughter of the late Admiral Claude Owen Kell an Clara Peifer. She was a graduate of the University of California and a volunteer for the Red Cross and Reading for the Blind. She worked as a reference librarian and was of the Episcopal faith. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bridges Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ralph Marsh officiating. A reception will fallow at the residence. Survivors include her husband, Alfred G. Steer, a daughter, Suzan Elizabeth Steer, West Bath, Maine; a son, John Thomas Steer, Castine, Maine; a granddaughter and a nephew.
