She was a retired employee of Big Ace Manufacturing Co. and a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Forest Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Evans Commerce Reba O. Evans, 90, of 302 E. Ridgeway Road died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Evans was a daughter of the late Thomas and Pearly Cheek Cleghorn and the widow of Clint Evans. She was a homemaker. Maddox Winder Betty D. "Mama B" Maddox, 70, of 1244 Jefferson Highway died Sunday, Nov. 2, 1997. A native of Coffee County, Mrs. Maddox was a daughter of Louise Dockery of Broxton and the late William Dockery and the widow of E. Ross Maddox. She was a teacher at Kennedy Elementary School for the Barrow County school system and had been teaching for 50 years. She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and an active member of The Church at Winder. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at The Church at Winder with the Revs. Billy Driskell and Donnie Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Maddox Cemetery. A native of Banks County, Mrs. Meeler was a daughter of the late Tom and Minnie Strange Bell and was adopted by the late Sim and Mattie Pritchett Chitwood. She was the widow of Plumer Meeler and preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Meeler, and two sons, Sim Meeler and Calvin Meeler. She was a retired waitress and a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Geneva Hargis Emily Nicholson, 77, of 334 Church St., wife of Dr. Homer Nicholson, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997. A native of Murray, Ky., Mrs. Nicholson was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Russell Hargis. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Georgia, graduating cum laude. She was a writer of poetry and had read her work for the National Poetry Society in New York City. Her worked was published in several books and periodicals. She was a member of the Poetry Club in Sumter and was a recipient of an award for her poetry from the University of Georgia. Nicholson Sr. A Rhodes scholar, he received his B.S. degree from the University of Georgia and his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University. He was a retired professor of humanities at Morris College in Sumter and taught storytelling at Shepherd Center in Sumter. He was a longtime member of the Alcoholics Anonymous in Sumter.
