Brannen Winterville Nancy J. Brannen, 52, formerly of Valdosta, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997. A native of Grass Valley, Calif., Mrs. Brannen was a daughter of A.A. and Lucy Bartos of Tucson, Ariz. She was employed with the University of Georgia and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta. Funeral services will be at 12:15 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with the Rev. John O'Brien officiating. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Dr. Walter G. Brannen, Valdosta; three daughters, Jane Elizabeth Brannen, Athens, Mary Lynn Hewett, Pelham, and Ann Marie Brannen, Valdosta; two sons, John Patrick Brannen, Athens, and David Anthony Brannen, Valdosta; three sisters, Lucy Nemic, Sacramento, Calif., and Susan Harris and Melissa Bartos, both of Tucson; a brother, Dennis Bartos, Tucson; and four grandchildren. Lucille Cole Jefferson Lucille Clark Cole, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997. A native of Hall County, Mrs. Cole was a daughter of the late Willie and Emma Pope Clark and the widow of Carson Cole. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Brock Attaway. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, with the Revs. Howard Banks and Ricky Thrasher officiating. Burial was in Friendship Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Montine Hardy, Winder, and Jeanie Raney, Athens; and a brother, Willie Clark, Jefferson. Maria Crane College Park Maria Crane died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997. Nelson Canon Fay Dean Bright Nelson, 74, of 88 Cherokee Ridge Road died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997. A native of Dale County, Ala., Mrs. Nelson was a daughter of the late James Bascom and Susan Stella Lee Newton Bright and the widow of Elbert Guy Nelson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary, Bethany Baptist Church and the Joy Club. A lifelong resident of Clarke County, Mrs. Thompson was a daughter of the late J.F. and Ella Bullock Allgood and the widow of James L. Thompson. She and her husband were in the upholstery business for many years. She was of the Baptist faith. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Oconee Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Survivors include two grandsons; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. John Wallis Jr. Miami John Parks Wallis Jr., 65, formerly of Elberton, died Monday, Sept. 1, 1997. A native of Elberton, Mr. Wallis was a son of the late Gladys Moore and John Parks Wallis Sr. An Army veteran, he was the former owner of Atlantic Pump and Equipment Co. and a member of Philomathea Masonic Lodge 25 and Village Green Missionary Baptist Church in Miami. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Elberton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Wallace Wheeles and the Rev. Gary French officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
