A native of Raleigh, N.C., Dr. Hayes was a son of the late Frank Alfred and Blanche Deshazo Hayes. A Navy veteran of World War II, he earned the rank of lieutenant senior grade. A graduate of Elon College, he received bachelor's and doctorate of veterinary medicine degrees from the University of Georgia and a master's degree from Auburn University. He was a retired distinguished alumni professor at the UGA Veterinary School and a member of the American Veterinary Association and the Wildlife Disease Association. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Bob Nash officiating. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Annie K. Prestwood Hayes; a brother, B.D. Hayes, Orlando, Fla.; and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sundown Surgery Fund at the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. Lillian O'Kelley Winterville Lillian Edna O'Kelley, 91, of 1270 Athens Road, died Sunday, August 3, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Miss O'Kelley was a daughter of the late George and Naomi Rice O'Kelley. She attended the University of Georgia and lived most of her life in Florida, where she taught in the public school system. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in O'Kelley Family Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Survivors include nieces and nephews. Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, is in charge of arrangements. Jesse Raby Greensboro Jesse Loran Raby, 75, of 1690 Wrightsville Church Road, died Sunday, August 3, 1997. A native of Clayborne, Tenn., Mr. Raby was a son of the late Tillman F. Raby and Lola Helton. An Army-Airborne veteran of World War II, he was owner and operator of Jesse's Garage. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Adams Walker Post and the National Rifle Association, and was of the Baptist faith. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. today at McCommons Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Maeser officiating, and Friday at Rose Funeral Home, Knoxville, Tenn. Burial will be in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, Heiskell Station, Tenn. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Raby, South Carolina; two sisters, Nettie Betsel, Fayetteville, and Helen Miller, Knoxville, Tenn.; five brothers, Ralf Raby, Pipe Creek, Texas, Frank Raby, Heiskell Station, Tenn., Paul Raby, Homosassa, Fla., Joe Raby, Sharps Chapel, Tenn., and James Raby, Knoxville, Tenn.; three granddaughters; a grandson; and five great-grandchildren. Marie Thomas Athens Marie Farmer Thomas, 84, of 1910 Danielsville Road, died Thursday, July 31, 1997. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Thomas was retired as a practical nurse at Athens Regional Medical Center after 40 years of service and was a member of the Georgia Practical Nursing Association. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Hull, with the Rev. Kenneth Elder officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Survivors include her husband, Deacon Mascus Thomas; a daughter, Angela Thomas Barnett, Athens; four sisters, Lucille Bruton and Geraldine Wakefield, both of Philadelphia, Willie Lee Morton, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Dorothy Huggs, Chicago; two brothers, Joseph T. Farmer, Philadelphia, and Curtis Farmer, Clairemont, Calif.; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Winfrey's Mutual Funeral Home. Eugene H. Waterfield Athens Eugene H. Waterfield, 69, of 580 Nantahala Ave., died Monday, August 4, 1997. A native of Warsaw, Va., Mr. Waterfield was a son of the late Otis and Evelyn Waterfield. He was a truck driver for Loef Co. and of the Baptist faith. Private services will be at a later date. Survivors include his wife, Josie M. Waterfield; two stepdaughters, Betty Jones, Roberta, and Mildred Jones, Winterville; a stepson, Lonnie McDaniel, Winterville; a sister, Geneva Brown, Warsaw, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
