Charles Adair Washington Dr. Morgan Charles Adair, 82, of 203 Sims St. died Wednesday, Dec. 3 1997. A native of Atlanta, Dr. Adair was a son of the late Morgan Carl and Maude Smith Adair. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corp during World War II and received the Purple Heart following the D-Day Invasion. He graduated from Emory Medical School in 1941 and was a medical doctor. He served as vice president of the Georgia Medical Association, a diplomat and fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and was the first director of the Family Practice Residency Program at Floyd Medical Center in Rome, beginning in 1974. He was a member of the Georgia State Board of Health, the American Medical Association, Kiwanis Club and First United Methodist Church in Washington, where he was a teacher of the men's Sunday school class. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at First UMC with the Revs. Grady Mosley II and Elvyn McDonald officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Decatur Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Lefreda Jackson Adair; a daughter, Susan Adair Blanton, Greensboro; two sons, Charles Lewis Adair, Los Angeles, Calif., and Carleton L. Adair, Greenville, S.C.; and three grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles Edward Adair, Robin Adair, Dan Coxwell, Hugh D. Hopkins, Skeet Willingham and Edward B. Harry William Allan, 72, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997. Mr. Allan served in several positions with the Florida Forest Service, including farm forester and information and educational officer. She was retired from Dairy Pak and was a member of Central Baptist Church. A native of Oakland, Calif., Dr. Horvat was a son of John E. and Madeline R. Horvat. He was a retired chemist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Russell Research Center. He was a graduate of St. Mary's College of California and received advanced degrees at the University of San Francisco and Stanford University. He was internationally known in the field of flavor research and was the author of more than 130 scientific publications. He was a life member of the American Chemical Society. A native of Halifax County, Mr. Irby was a son of the late Acree Dunn and Wirt Jordan Hagood Irby. He was a longtime councilman for the city of South Boston, was instrumental in helping build the community hospital and Tuck Dillard Stadium, was president of Halifax County Booster Club, owner and operator of Service Oil Co. and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, were he served as senior warden. A Navy veteran of World War II, he attended North Georgia College and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1942.
