Bell Hartwell Charlotte Shelnutt Bell, 77, of 611 W. Howell St., died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997. A native of Bartow, Fla., Mrs. Bell was a daughter of the late Rev. Erastus Lamar and Tina Dean Stephenson Shelnutt and the widow of James W. Bell Sr. She was preceded in death by a son, James W. Bell Jr. She was co-owner of Hartwell Co. and Bell Industries, a charter member of the Nancy Hart Garden Club, a life member of the Garden Club of Georgia, and a member of the American Apparel Manufacturers Association, Hartwell Women's Club, Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon Bridge Clubs and the Friday afternoon Coffee Club of Hartwell Pharmacy. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International and received the Partners in Youth Award for her help with the Hartwell Young Men's Christian Association. She was a member of Hartwell First Baptist Church and the W.M.U. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartwell First Baptist Church with Drs. F. Hugh Kirby and Kenneth L. Anglin and the Rev. Charlie Wilson will officiate. Burial will be at Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Survivors include a daughter, Deann Bell Knight, Hartwell; two sisters, Ruth Herrin, Roswell, and Hazel Getzen, Orlando; and six grandchildren. A native of Mount Dora, Fla., Mr. Burley was a son of the late Ralph Canada and Janie Swinton Burley. He was a retired Navy chaplain and a member of Hill First Baptist Church. A native of Elbert County, Mr. Denney was a son of the late James L. and Cora Barton Denney. He was a retired bus driver for the Elbert County school system and was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Deep Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Blythe Rice Bowman Blythe Thomas Rice, 99, of Lilburn, formerly of Bowman, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Rice was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Quincie Roxanna "Lady" Bell Thomas and the widow of Morgan Rice. She was a retired music teacher, having taught in Elbert and Hart counties. She was a Real Daughter member of United Daughters of the Confederacy, Chapter 18, in Atlanta, and was a member of Bowman United Methodist Church.
