Collins Comer Otties K. Collins, 77, of College Avenue died Tuesday, July 8, 1997. A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Collins was a daughter of the late Jack and Sallie McConnell Nelms and a widow of Ed Collins. She was retired after 39 years at Blue Bell Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Vineyards Creek Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville. Burial will be in Meadow Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include two sons, Billy Ray Kidd, Comer, and Tommy Kidd, Royston; three stepsons, Roger Collins, Hull, Wayne Collins, Ila, and James Collins, Danielsville; three sisters, Pauline Coile and Frances Brown, both of Comer, and Thades Moon, Danielsville; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Billy Crowe Hartwell Billy Crowe, 72, of 261 Ellen St. died Wednesday, July 9, 1997. A native of Hart County, Mr. Crowe was a son of the late Henry and Eunice Vickery Crowe. He was retired after 30 years at Clarke-Schwebel Fiberglass, Anderson, and 15 years as a carrier for The Anderson-Independent News. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Milltown Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Strickland Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Patten and Ed Sayer officiating. Burial will be in Milltown Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Faye Cobb Crowe; four stepdaughters, Hazel Cauffman, Lake Toxaway, N.C., Betty Martin, Hartwell, and Peggy Brown and Sandra Perry, both of Elberton; two sisters, Tonnie McLane, Hartwell and Tommie Crowe, Hartwell; and eight grandchildren. The family is at the residence and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Harold Gary Nicholson Harold Lee Gary, 62, of 136 Mulberry St. died Wednesday, July 9, 1997. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Gary was a son of the late Jimmy E. and Dora Garner Gary. He was employed by the city of Nicholson and was a member of the Nicholson Fire Department. He was a member of the deacon board of Nicholson Congregational Holiness Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Nicholson Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Howard Rhodes, Dennis Kesler and Curtis Green officiating. Burial will be in Nicholson Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2:30 p.m. Survivors include his stepmother, Lucille Gary, Commerce; his wife, Josie Brock Gary; four sons, Aubrey Gary, Commerce, and Lee Gary, Roy Gary, and Thomas Gary, all of Nicholson; a sister, Sadie Royston, Franklin Springs; a brother, James Gary, Nicholson; and 10 grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce. Donald Griffith Buchanan Donald Carlton Griffith, 45, of 487 McBrayer Road died Tuesday, July 8, 1997. Mr. Griffith was a son of Mac and Sara Ann Griffith of Buchanan. He was a beef cattle and poultry farmer, past president of the Georgia Cattleman's Association and the Haralson County Cattleman's Association, and past director of the National Beef Board and the West Georgia Beef Checkoff, as well as a Master 4-H'er and a 4-H volunteer. In 1974 he received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia, where he was a linebacker with the Bulldogs football team and a member of the Letterman's Club. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at Buchanan United Methodist Church with the Revs. Kendra Grimes and Claude McBride officiating. Burial will be in Buchanan City Cemetery, followed by a gathering at his farm. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two daughters, Kersha Griffith and Kiley Griffith, both of Buchanan; two brothers, Jim Griffith, Macon, and Joe Griffith, Buchanan; and a special friend, Belita Griffith, Tallapoosa. A native of Madison County, Mrs. Jordan was a daughter of the late Robert Nathaniel and Lillie Allen Dover and the widow of J. Roger Jordan. She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Roger Jordan. She was retired from Westclox Manufacturing Co. and a member of Colbert Baptist Church, where she was past-president of the FIDELIS Sunday school class. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Colbert Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial will be in Pennington Chapel, Royston. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Jordan Prickett, Athens; a son, James Edward Jordan, Hull; a brother, Jesse Claude Dover, Landis, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Freeman Leverett, 68, of 177 Heard Drive died Wednesday, July 9, 1997. A native of Fort Valley, Mr. Leverett was a son of the late Ernest Dennis and Fannie Avera Leverett. A former assistant attorney general of Georgia, he had practiced law in Elberton since 1959. He was a member of the Elberton Rotary Club, the State Bar Association of Georgia, the National and Georgia School Board Association and the Supreme Court Historical Society. He was past chairman of the state Campaign Financial Disclosure Commission, twice a member of the Disciplinary Board of the State of Georgia, past barrister in the Joseph Henry Lumpkin, American Inn of Court, and a member of the Glenn Miller Society, London, England. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Elberton First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Dr. C.E. Jackson officiating. Survivors include his wife, Florence Kemp Leverett; two daughters, Sheryl Williams, Buford, and Dr. Debra Garing, Elkin, N.C.; a son, Rob Leverett, Elberton; and eight grandchildren. Wagoner, 75, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997. A native of Lodi, Ohio, Mr. Wagoner was a son of the late James C. and Bessie Benedum Wagoner. He was an Army veteran of World War II and participated in the Normandy invasion. He was a retired sales representative in the automotive industry, and a member of the Kiwanis Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Services will be at a later date in Mentor, Ohio. Survivors include his wife, Madaline Wagoner; two daughters, Kay Heilman, Toledo, Ohio, and Judy Smith, England; a son Jim Wagoner, Dacula; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Carter-Stewart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Walker Word Sr. Clayton Walker Word Sr. died Friday June 6, 1997. A native of Waco, Mr. Word was a retired Northeast Georgia area manager for Franklin Life Insurance Co. of Springfield, Ill., and a member of Life Underwriter's Association, Athens. He was an active Kiwanian and a deacon of First Baptist Church. Reminiscences of his boyhood days were featured in several issues of Foxfire magazine. Memorial services were June 15, 1997, at First Methodist Church. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Athens, with the Rev. Dr. H.P. Giddens officiating. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Word; a daughter, Gail Word-Hnatusko, Duluth and Blowing Rock, N.C.; a son, Walker Word Jr., Athens; a stepdaughter, Patricia Cagle Michael, Atlanta; two sisters, Margaret Lynch, Tampa, Fla., and Mary W.
