Carter Athens Mae L. Carter, 79, of 525 Forest Heights Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997. A native of Jeffersonville, Ind., Mrs. Carter was a daughter of the late Harold and Grace Butts Merideth and the widow of Gerald C. Carter. She had lived in Athens for the past 20 years. Funeral services will be private. Entombment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survivors include a daughter, Jerallyn M. Ozburn, Athens; and three grandchildren, Michael Ozburn, Virginia, Mark Ozburn, Athens, and Margaret Mix, Maine. Bridges Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Jameal Cofer Springfield, Mass. Jameal Cornelieus Cofer, 4, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997. A native of Athens, Jameal was a son of James Coffer of Athens and Kemler Long of Springfield, Mass. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Oct. 6 at Progressive Community Chapel with Dr. Brett Snowden officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. A native of Oglethorpe County, Ms. Crawford was a daughter of the late Clyde Crawford and Miriah Colquitt Crawford. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Timothy Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry F. Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Mable Montgomery, Piscataway, N.J. two sons, Willie Grover Howard and Michael Bernard Howard Sr., both of Athens; two sisters, Irene Gresham, Atlanta, and Lula Mae Lawson, Birmingham, Ala.; three brothers, Hunter Howard Jr., Athens, Jasper Howard, Atlanta, and Eddie Louis Howard, Lithonia; and four grandchildren. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Mitchell was a son of Mattie Mae Mitchell Thomas of Athens and the late Chestly Mitchell Sr. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Thankful Baptist Church, Stephens, with the Rev. Amory Rogers Jr., M.D. Commerce Amory Audrey Rogers Jr., M.D., 75, of 64 Parkview Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997. Dr. Rodgers was the son of the late Dr. Amory Audrey and Marion Irene Rogers Sr. He received his A.B. degree from Emory University and his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. He was a Navy cadet during World War II and upon graduation he went to Camp Lejeune, N.C. for his internship. He was a member of the medical staff at Athens General Hospital, Saint Mary's Hospital and Banks-Jackson-Commerce Hospital, where he was a former chairman of the hospital staff. He was a medical director of Banks-Jackson-Commerce Nursing Home and Barrett Nursing Home, a member of the National Board of Family Practice, a former chairman of the Jackson County Public Health Board and a member of First Baptist Church of Commerce, where he served on the board of deacons. He served three terms on the Commerce City Council, a member of Commerce Kiwanis Club, past president of the Commerce Band Booster Club, PTA and Hudson Lodge 294 Yarrab Shrine Temple. He served on the board of directors of Northeastern Bank and Harmony Grove Mill of Commerce, Blue Cross-Blue Shield Insurance of Columbus and American Legion. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Commerce, with Ray Austin and the Revs. Don Paulson and Carlton Peters officiating. Burial will be in Grey Hill Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Ann Elizabeth Harvey Rogers; a daughter, Dr. Martha F. Rogers, Decatur; two sons, Amory A. Tripp Rogers III, Nicholson, and Robert H. Rogers, Commerce; a brother, Bill Rogers Sr., Swainsboro; and five grandchildren.
