He was retired police chief of Madison and also worked for Simmons Funeral Home for more than 20 years. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Madison Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ross officiating. Burial will be in Rutledge City Cemetery. Nell N. Crawford Commerce Nell N. Crawford, 94, of Georgia Avenue died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997. A native of Commerce, Mrs. Crawford was a daughter of the late Dave and Rhodie Estes Nunn and the widow of Odell Tolbert and Quilla Crawford. She was an operator with Commerce Telephone Co. A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Gabriel was a son of Lizzie Mae Gabriel of Winterville and the late Frank E. "Rube" Gabriel Sr. He was preceded in death by a brother, John T. She resided in Athens for 40 years but lived most of her life in Hall County. She worked many years at Spencer Jewelry in Athens and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lucile Coile, and a son, Swayne Lawrence.
