Andy Brown Watkinsville Andy Richard Brown, 66, of 1121 Old Salem Road, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997. A native of Oconee County, Mr. Brown was a son of the late Walter Lipton and Roxie Pope. Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday at Brown Chapel Baptist Church, Bishop, with the Rev. Samuel Pridgon officiating. Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Sarah Carter Athens Sarah Hall Carter, known to many as Sarah Hall Michael, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997. Longtime Athens resident, Mrs. Carter was a daughter of Alice Kennon Williams of Augusta and the late Joseph Somerville Hall. She was the widow of David B. Michael, owner with the late Leroy Michael Sr. of the former Michael Bros. Department Store, and Wilson Carter and was preceded in death by her daughter, Sara "Tee" Michael. "Miss Sarah" celebrated her 95th birthday on Sept. 30, 1997, with all of her family. She was a charter member of the Athens Junior Assembly and the Junior Ladies Garden Club, a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy, established her Sewing Club and the first Girls Scouts of America Troop in Athens. Mrs. Carter attended Lucy Cobb Institute. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oconee Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Survivors include two sons, David Michael, Aspen, Colo., and Jerome H. Michael, Healdsburg, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Hall Cumming, Athens; and four grandchildren. Gunnells, 86, of 4615 Barnett Shoals Road, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997. A native and longtime resident of Madison County, Mr. Gunnells was a son of the late Ode and Lola Bell Hardman Gunnells. Ben Hall Dewy Rose Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Hall, 94, of Elberton Hwy., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997. A native of Lee County, Fla., Mr. Hall was a son of the late Washington and Mary Elizabeth Davis Hall, and the widower of Mary Teasley Hall. He was retired from the Florida State Highway Department and was a member of Masonic Lodge #240, Tampa, Fla. Mr. Hall was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Juliet Hunter Atlanta Juliet Howard Hunter, formerly of Stephens, Ga., died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mrs. Hunter was a daughter of the late Major and Julie Howard. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Stephens, with the Rev. Calvin Turner officiating. Jones Lexington Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. David Paddock Jr. Homestead, Fla. David F. Paddock Jr., 78, formerly of Athens, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Paddock was a son of the late Laura Hutchins Paddock ("Aunt Lollipop") and former University of Georgia football star quarterback David F. Paddock Sr. Mr. Paddock was a 1936 graduate of Athens High School where he was a half-back with the Athens High Maroon football team and a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated with honors from the University of Georgia in 1940. During World War II, he was a Captain in the European Theater of Operations where he served four years with the 89th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 9th Armored Division. Captain Paddock served during the Battle of the Bulge. Survivors include his sisters, Margaret Paddock O'Connor, Athens, Laura Paddock Horner, Roanoke, Va.; a niece Diane Horner Jerue, Alexandria, Va.; and a nephew, Robert S. Horner, Birmingham, Ala. Cody Saxon Winterville William Cody Saxon, 65, of 1200 Robert Hardeman Road, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Saxon was a son of the late Jim and Margie Cody Saxon and foster son of the late Crawford and Maude Maxey. He was a real estate broker and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Bread of Life Congregational Holiness Church.
