Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Survivors include his wife, Linda Payne Aaron; three daughters, Ericka D. A native of Greene County, Mr. Alexander was a son of the late Zebbie and Inez Alexander. An Army veteran of World War II, he was retired from the Chicago Housing Authority and a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Eugene Atwaters officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 1-8 p.m. today at Watts Funeral Home, Union Point. Gwendolyn Collins Athens Gwendolyn Lashay Collins, 23, of 361 E. Carver St. died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Ms. Collins was a daughter of Cordelia Brightwell and Freddy Collins of Athens. She was a member of Arnold Grove Baptist Church in Arnoldsville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Arnold Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. James Allen and David Stanley officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A native of Columbia County, Mr. Greene earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Georgia, graduating Phi Kappa Phi. A Navy veteran of World War II - Pearl Harbor, he was retired after 20 years as E7 CPO, and also was a retired executive director at SEPA. He was a member of the Albany Rotary Club, the Millington Masonic Lodge 671, Millington, Tenn., the American Society of Association Executive, the Georgia Society of Association Executive and several academic clubs in Athens. He was of the Protestant faith. Funeral services with full military honors will be at 3 p.m. today at Old Union Baptist Church, Harlem, with the Rev. Allen Yarbrough officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jean I. Clark Gunnells Athens Clark Gunnells, 51, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Mr. Gunnells was a son of Onell Silvey Gunnells and the late Curtis Bernard Gunnells. He was a cameraman with Athens Newspapers and had lived in the area all of his life. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Whitehall Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a sister, Lamore Taylor, Texas; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends 12:30-1 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East. Lurene Hairston Athens Lurene Hairston of 395 Arch St. died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Hairston was a daughter of the late Pearl Dowdy and Hoyt Hawkins. She was a retired U.S. postal clerk in New York City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at East Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. James Kendrick officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. A native of Jackson County, Mr. Harwell was a son of the late James Lester and Susie Harwell. He was a toolmaker at Westinghouse in Athens and served as Barrow County Tax Commissioner from 1969-1992. He was a member of Union Baptist Church, Davidson Lodge 103, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Odd Fellows, Royal Arch Chapter 84, Council Member 77 and The Commandary in Buford. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Rusty Newman, Paul Freeman and Ronald Hewatt officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. A native of Birmingham, Ala., Mr. Jordan was a son of the late I.J. and Dewey Townsend Jordan. He was preceded in death by two sons, Danny Jordan and Ricky Jordan. A Navy veteran, he was retired after 14 years from Milliken Co. and was a member of Canon Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Canon City Cemetery with the Rev. Mathews Lexington Walter R. Mathews, 88, of 179 S. Point Peter Drive died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997. A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Mathews was a son of the late Raleigh E. and Rosa Thornton Mathews. He was a retired farmer and from the USDA Soil Conservation Service, a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge 158 and a member and deacon of Glade Baptist Church.
